Restorative Justice for Educator Workshop Series 2.0

Join Restorative Justice Coordinators, School Administrators, and other school staff in a professional learning community about implementing Restorative Practices in Schools. The group meets monthly on Wednesdays from 3-5 PM. The cost is $400 for the entire nine session workshop.

Session 1, October 27, 2021 - Addressing Chronic Truancy with Restorative Practices

Participants will reflect on traditional school responses to excessive absences and learn how to use a Restorative Circle with students and families to identify obstacles and create plans to improve attendance.

Session 2, November 17, 2021 - Using Restorative Practices in Team and Family Meetings

As leaders, we need to model relationship building and problem solving using Restorative Practices. In this workshop, participants will learn three different circle activities to use with staff and parents.

Session 3, December 15, 2021 - Aligning Trauma Informed Lens and Social Emotional Learning with School Wide Restorative Practices

Educators face implementing multiple initiatives each year. In this workshop, participants will discuss how community building circles provide opportunities to teach and practice social emotional skills and for increasing understanding and empathy among students and staff.

Session 4, January 26, 2022 - Evaluating School Wide Practices (Tiers 1-3)

Participants will look at: a model for School Wide Restorative Practice implementation; a Teacher Readiness assessment, Restorative Practice School Survey, and a facilitator reflection tool.

Session 5, February 16, 2022 - Facilitating Circles about Race

Participants will review scripts and participate in circles about: Racial Affinity, Understanding White Privilege, and Understanding Implicit Bias.

Session 6, March 23, 2022 - Aligning Culturally Responsive Teaching and School Wide Restorative Practices

Participants will engage in a conversation on Restorative Practices align with the CR-S Framework to provide a Welcoming and Affirming Environment, High Expectations and Rigorous Instruction, Inclusive Curriculum and Assessment, and Ongoing Professional Learning and Support.

Session 7, April 27, 2022 - Using Restorative Practices in Special Education

To promote inclusion within the IEP process, participants will practice using an IEP script from Circle Forward and discuss steps for implementation.

Session 8, May 25, 2022 - Creating Three-year Plans to Roll Out Restorative Practices to Set Goals

Participants will review a sample three year roll out plan for Restorative Practices and create or revise their schools’ plans for School Wide Restorative Practices.

Session 9, June 22, 2022 - Grievances Verses Gripes; a Restorative Approach to Staff Conflicts

In the workplace, contractual conflicts can be addressed through a formal grievance process. Often, conflicts among staff can be resolved using a Responsive Circle. In this workshop, participants will role play two works place conflicts using a restorative process.
